A sustainable development

The design of Gunyah is guided by the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which seek to achieve a better future for all. These goals can be broken down into 4 key design principles: people, nature, places, and community.

Following these principles ensures that we deliver a sustainable development that meets the needs of the Dubbo community, now and in the future.

Two of Gunyah’s key sustainable design concepts are:

  • A Country-centric approach – The masterplan engages best-practice land and water management techniques used by Traditional Owners. The design has been informed by the natural hydrology and topography of the site to minimise necessary earthworks and the impact on floodplains.

  • Dedication to and functional use of green space – 20% of the Urban Release Area will be dedicated to green space. These will be in areas containing significant existing vegetation and where inundation and overland flows are likely to occur. This will create innovative green infrastructure that will naturally filter, retain and direct stormwater catchments, avoiding typical pipe stormwater solutions where possible.

The masterplan further details the sustainable and climate resilient approach.

North-West Precinct Community Pty Ltd is committed to reporting on these goals in the annual Gunyah triple bottom line dashboard report.
